Gerwig most recently directed and co-wrote the global cultural phenomenon, BARBIE, smashing box office records and receiving worldwide critical acclaim, including eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and a win for Original Song. In 2017, Gerwig made her directorial debut with LADY BIRD, earning Oscar® nominations for Directing and Original Screenplay. She went on to write and direct an inventive adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s LITTLE WOMEN, which was nominated for six Academy Awards® including Best Picture and an individual nomination for Gerwig for Best Adapted Screenplay. As an actress, Gerwig’s early films include the indie classics HANNAH TAKES THE STAIRS which she co-wrote, and NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS, which she co-directed, co-wrote, and co-produced, before her breakout in Noah Baumbach’s GREENBERG opposite Ben Stiller. She followed up the collaboration with Baumbach co-writing and starring in the critically acclaimed FRANCES HA, earning a Golden Globe® nomination for Best Actress - Comedy or Musical, as well as MISTRESS AMERICA. They have continued their creative partnership co-writing BARBIE as well as starring in his most recent films, WHITE NOISE and his upcoming UNTITLED FILM, opposite George Clooney and Adam Sandler. Her additional acclaimed performances include standout roles in JACKIE and 20TH CENTURY WOMEN. Gerwig is currently working on an adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA for Netflix. Greta Gerwig2024 Pioneer of the Year The Sinfonietta is an all-women and majority women-of-color orchestra and production company renowned for its diverse and innovative creative direction and dedication to musical excellence. The Sinfonietta’s inaugural NYC-based orchestra, The Broadway Sinfonietta, was founded in 2020 by Egyptian-American Orchestrator Macy Schmidt (who was recently named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 List for her work with the Sinfonietta). Since teaming up with industry veteran Colleen McCormack to grow the company, the orchestra has collaborated with pop stars such as Renée Rapp, Laufey, Brandy and Jordin Sparks; in concert for feature films and live score events such as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (World Premiere, 70+ city national tour), Cowboy Bebop (World Premiere), and Avatar: The Last Airbender; and even onstage as featured soloists for the opening number of the 2023 Tony Awards. After making its live full orchestra debut presented by Carnegie Hall Citywide, the Sinfonietta has expanded to include the LA-based Hollywood Sinfonietta, partnering with Sony Pictures on two live score premieres of feature films, as well as debuting the world premiere of Barbie The Movie: In Concert at the Hollywood Bowl. This fall, the Sinfonietta will present Disney and Pixar’s Coco In Concert as part of its multi-year film concert residency with The Town Hall in New York City.
