Disaster Resources

          American Red Cross

The American Red Cross, a volunteer-led organization, financially supported by voluntary public contributions and cost-reimbursement charges, provides domestic disaster relief; community services that help the needy; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection, processing and distribution lifesaving blood and blood products; educational programs that promote health and safety; and international relief and development programs. People affected by disasters may register at the American Red Cross's Web site to let their loved ones know they are safe and well. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

FEMA was established in 1979, by merging disaster relief services into a single federal agency. In 2003, it became part of the Department of Homeland Security. FEMA helps communities nationwide prepare for, respond to and recover from natural and man-made disasters. FEMA's Web site provides helpful information regarding disaster preparedness, disaster assistance and FEMA's online or phone application process.

United Way
 
The United Way is a worldwide non profit oganization that advances the common good and creates opportunities to better people’s lives by providing education, income and health services. The United Way provides recovery aid to people affected by disasters. Local offices of the United Way can found at their web site.




Emergency Aid Providers

          Actors' Fund

The Actors' Fund is for people on the stage and behind the scenes, in front of the camera and behind the lens. It's for agents and announcers, carpenters and clowns, actors and dancers, magicians and musicians, producers and free agents, stage hands and singers. People in film and theatre, TV and radio, music, dance and opera, and the full spectrum of other entertainment media have always turned to The Actors' Fund when some personal or family crisis threatens their well-being. 

Advertising Industry Emergency Fund

The Advertising Industry Emergency Fund is a volunteer organization made up of advertising people brought together to help their colleagues in times of life crisis.

Aid for AIDS

For over twenty years, Aid For AIDS has provided direct financial assistance to persons living with HIV/AIDS who are disabled and living below the poverty line. AFA helps individuals and families by paying for life’s necessities - housing, utilities, home delivery of fresh food, health insurance, medications and nutritional supplements.

American Federation of Television and Radio Artists - Frank Nelson Fund

The Frank Nelson Sick & Benefit Fund provides emergency aid and other resources to qualified members of AFTRA Locals west of Omaha. For more information, please contact Kathleen Winslow in Los Angeles at (323) 634-8104.

Artists' Fellowship, Inc. 

The Artists' Fellowship, Inc. is a private, charitable foundation that assists professional fine artists (painters, graphic artists, sculptors) and their families in times of emergency, disability, or bereavement.
 
Career Transition for Dancers 

The mission of Career Transition For Dancers is to empower current and former professional dancers with the knowledge and skills necessary to clearly define their career possibilities after dance, and to provide resources necessary to help make these possibilities a reality.

Motion Picture Television Fund -
Crisis Support

Temporary emergency financial assistance is available for qualifying industry members who experience financial hardship due to illness, disability, unemployment or other reasons. You may be eligible for health insurance premium support through the Health Insurance Premium Support Program, collaboration between the Motion Picture & Television Fund and the UniHealth Foundation.

Motown/Universal Music Group Fund


The Motown/Universal Music Group Fund was created to provide grants for assistance to R&B recording artists formerly affiliated with Universal Music Group and any of its wholly owned labels. The goal of the Motown/Universal Music Group Fund is to ensure that R&B artists in need will have access to important financial resources for health, welfare and medical purposes.

MusiCares Foundation


MusiCares Foundation was established in 1989 by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences with the objective of focusing the attention and resources of the music industry on the health, human service and welfare needs of all music people. Provides assistance to music people in need of financial or other assistance.

Musicians Benevolent Society of Houston

The Musicians Benevolent Society of Houston (MBS) is a tax-exempt, 501c3 Texas corporation that provides musicians with up to $1,000 in temporary financial assistance for medical emergencies.  Questions regarding assistance can be directed to Steve Sucher, at (713) 204-3238.

Society of Singers


Society of Singers - Nonprofit charity that helps professional vocalists worldwide in times of crisis. SOS provides emergency financial aid, case management, counseling and referral services. SOS is not a union, talent agency or employment service.

The Episcopal Actors Guild

The emergency aid and relief program offers assistance to performers of all faiths, and none.  The Guild’s charitable programs primarily focus on people who perform live onstage in front of live audiences.

The Screen Actors Guild Foundation

Founded in 1985, the Screen Actors Guild Foundation (SAG) is an educational, humanitarian and philanthropic 501© 3 non-profit organization The Foundation provides funds for the aid, relief and care of needy, sick, indigent and aged Guild members. The emergency assistance program provides emergency financial relief for qualified SAG members who demonstrate need. Grants are made payable to the creditor on behalf of the individual.
